Yes, you are right when you say that the Bible in Leviticus prohibits pork and not only that but the meat of any cloven hoofed animal and shell fish and buzzards and so forth.

Keep in mind that these laws were given to the Jews Only, but check out in the Bible where the Apostle Paul (who also was a Jew) said that the Law is a tutor leading to Christ and that Christ fulfilled the law when he allowed Himself to die an ignominius death for our sins.

Since Christ made the law unnecessary anymore, we are not under any obligation to eat certain meats. If you look it up, people were stumbled when Paul said it was okay to eat meat that had formerly been sacrificed to false gods, but it was the worship of false gods that was wrong; not eating the meat. In fact the Apostle Paul wrote that we should not question meat that comes from a meat market as to whether it was bled properly. In The King James Bible, the meat market is called shambles, so you have to look up the words.

What we are obligated to do from the Law now are the basic things of how God wants us to live our lives, but the dietary regulations don't apply to us. They only applied to the Jews for whom the law was given, and even the Jews, once they accepted Christ, they were no longer forced to obey the strict dietary laws.

There are a few things that we still don't do. We are not supposed to drink blood such as the Masai Warriors in Africa do. We still should not eat any meat in which the animal suffocated. We still need to follow the principles in the Ten Commandments, but the over 600 laws given to the ancient Jews do not apply to us nor were they written in the Bible to make Christians follow them.

Remember the Apostle Peter? He was told by Christ to go and teach the people of the nations. He didn't want to go, but he finally did. He didn't want to go because they ate Pork and did other things, but he finally did go, and the first non-Jew or Gentile to accept the good news was a Roman Soldier (Centurian) named Cornelius, and from that time forward the Good News was brought to ALL the peoples in the world.

If you read further in Acts, you will learn that the debate over whether or not Gentiles who wished to be Christians had to be circumcised and follow other Mosaic laws was resolved in this manner: Christians needed only to abstain from eating blood, eating meat sacrificed to idols, and fornication. That meant pork (which was not taboo to Greeks and Romans, but interestingly enough was to Egyptians - note that the Egyptians practiced circumcision, too) could be eaten. Muslims later retained both circumcision and the prohibition against pork

Mostly it is a matter of opinion. As "gentiles" the original laws of the Old Testament were written for the Jewish people because the pig is considered an "unclean" animal. However we can use it either way for our own scenario. One is that as our cultures have become diverse people, we have come to see pork as ok according to tradition. If one wanted to say this was wrong you would possibly reply that continuing to eat pork is "holding onto the wisdom and tradtion of our elders" otherwise it's just a matter of choice.

There are many things that confuse me about what the bible teaches and what people choose to do. One reason I am furious with the Catholic Religion I was raised in is because the things you can eat during Lent (meat wise) changes every so often.

I remember growing up and not being allowed to eat or cook pork. To this day I don't eat it or any meat, but it's not because of Religeous reasons, it's just a choice.

I truely believe that humans were meant to eat meat including pork and I think it is not really clear that God meant for us to NOT eat pork because so much gets lost in the translations. For all we know, we are not supposed to eat the lamb that was sacrified to God.

We must realize also that as sad as it is, not all humans believe in the Bible or God, so they would not know that this may be a sin.

Good luck on your search for the truth. ( :

There are a lot of things from the bible that people don't follow. If we are to follow everything from Leviticus (ha!) it would mean that women had to leave town for a week or two while they had their periods. We'd be sacrificing animals left and right! From what I hear, being Christian is following the teachings of the bible. Do you get the same feeling when you were taught not to eat pork as when you were taught not to kill people?

Pork was considered unclean because many people contracted trichinosis, thus it was easier to ban the consumption to protect people. If you think about many of the "religious " rules, they were for the protection of a segment of society at the time. Thus begs the question which came first the chicken or the egg, or is the bible actually a users manual for the 1st century?

Because it's so available when we go grocery shopping. Pork is in a lot of things we eat on a day to day basis, in the Summer. We're not supposed to eat cow either, but we do. We're not supposed to eat any hooved animals. (I can't remember where it says that in the Bible, and that's not exactly what it says. It's either hooved animal or two hooved animal. My Bible is packed away, cause I'm moving soon. Otherwise I'd give scripture.) We're only supposed to eat fish.

Because not all people are followers or beleivers in the Bible. It is the beauty of the first Amendment. And the Bible is always under interpitaion anyway. Always has been since it was first written down to when it was translated from latin, look at how many versions their are of the Bible.

Its simple, You did not understand the New Testament or maybe you did not read it.

Pastors and priests eat pork also, you must be lying if you say they agreed on you. Only Muslims, Jews, and Adventists do not eat pork. There are no pastors or priests on that religions

The Bible also says it's perfectly acceptable to sell your first-born daughter into slavery. Despite the book & religion claiming otherwise, just because a book CLAIMS something doesn't mean it's good, right, or divine whatsoever.
