I've never had to do anything but plug it in, and it works. Doesn't matter what computer I use (and that includes two Macs).
Maybe I'm using a more up-to-date operating system.

What operating system are you using, Windows if so which version, Linux -- which derivative, or any other system ??

For Windows just download USB drivers if its not working, for Linux check www.linux.com or manufacturer's website

Normally plug it in and turn on you computer and it will find it.

Can try:

Go to Start,

Control Panel,

Click on Printers and other hardware,

See also, (on the left hand side), click on "add hardware" and the wizard will help you.
