That statement is recorded in the Gospel according to Matthew in the New Testament of the Bible. Jesus Christ was being quoted.
I read recently that the wisdom behind this statement is the fact that when we hate someone, we invest much psychic energy in that hate than in love. Hence, the concept is understood though deduction that love actually takes a lot less from us in energy. . . Not to mention the fact that demonstrating love often leads to receiving love. . .and that feels a lot better than feeling hatred and animosity.

God said "Love thy enemy," and I do care about it. So I don't know where you got the idea that nobody cares about this statement. I hope God for gives you. May peace be with you.

Jesus...and before you call him a jerk, you should remember that he rose from the grave and will be back. Fact is, millions care very much about him today.
Then again, don't worry about it...you are probably right. Just keep on living how you are living...bitter against God for something he has done or not done for you. You will be much happier and effective in life this way.

Jesus said it. You may consider him a jerk - your privilege! - but there are a lot of people who care about it, and Him. We try to live it - although it is a very hard teaching, probably the hardest in all of Christianity. Nonetheless, He is the Way and the Truth and the Life, and if you believe in Him, He will reward you with life everlasting.
Best wishes and God bless.

Jesus said it, Paul explained why it's great advice:
"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:19-21)
Wise people, even the smarter atheists, know this is sound advice. Ever read a "how to manage people" book? They'll say the same thing ... although probably without the thee's and thou's lol.

if god is in control then why's it all about you. you missed the point of love thy enemy. it came from the love letter god wrote us do unto other as you would like done unto you. he didn't say that people would treat you the way you treat them. it was you he wanted to change not them. see you can't change the world around you . you can only change yourself. and after all it you that you have to live with.not them don't be a legion in your own mind be open minded and consider how nice it would feel to know that you are the kindest person you ever met. don't let them make you a hatefull person. show the people around you that they can't get to you . you get to them. if you do things for other exspecting them to do something nice for you then maybe you are self centered and thats the reason you are so lonely and cant meet anyone. changing who you are means god will change your surcomstances also. and maybe just maybe you can live happily ever after think about it im not trying to put you down im trying to help you up. i personally think your one of the most contious person iv'e met and im sure your a nice person if you put your mind to it sincerely yours at heart trueagape from above

I hope you realize the person that said "Love thy enemy" is the same person that is going to judge you on judgment day.
