Back in the days when the Hebrew bible/Old testament was written there were many religions about.

A little known fact is that the bible isn't a monotheistic doctrine, and in the beginning it is very polytheistic. Go ahead an reread the first few books.

Also the creation story in the bible is very similar to other Mesopotamian creation story's.

All of this just means that as Christianity was starting off it was polytheistic, and over the years it became monotheistic, and in other to keep the early Pre-Christians coming in to the temples the priest needed to insure they were the only game in town.

If you had an idol at home why would you walk all the way to the temple?

I'm not 100% sure that these commandments were made by God or by Moses because of his tribe being so unruly.....I mean, maybe he wanted to scare them into submission and God told him that this was the way to do it......Think about it.......You have a group of people who worship you to no end, then they are getting hungry and tired and fed up so they start doing what THEY want to do, then you go up on a mountain and come down with these commandments spoken directly from God.....Hmmmm......

1. What if your children called other people their parents instead of you?
2. Chasing false gods are like throwing hatchets to the moon. It's a warning against a fruitless chase.

What makes you think He is scared? "You shall have no other gods before Me." God also says that He is "a jealous God." While jealousy is a human emotion, and therefore inapplicable to God, it is an anthropopathism, which gives us something with which to relate. Doesn't Allah also say not to worship any other gods? It's not just YHWH who says this.

In each of these holy books, YHWH and Allah both say that they are the highest, most powerful beings in existence, and that no one should worship idols of other gods (why do you think Mohammed told his followers to not make any images of him? So that no one would worship him, only Allah). These deities desire exclusivity in worship and praise. They say in their holy books that they are all-powerful, and that they created everything, so why would anything else be deserving of worship when those other things did not create the world and everything in it?

He wasn't warning against because of His fear; but because of what he knew their false influence would wreak upon the people if they should look to other gods and images than him. Wouldn't you have wanted your parents to have warned you if something wasn't going to be in your best interest or just let you go ahead and pull that pan of hot grease down on top of your head?

Actually the warning is to you so you know when you run into him you are able to show respect to the real thing. He remembers everything you have said and will hold you accountable when you pass through the veil of life.

As for being scared...Nah... they are all imposters.

The mere fact that you are asking this question shows that you have not read the bible cos no where in the Bible does it says that GOD is scared of other deities.

All other gods beside Yahweh (God of the Bible) are false and man made. God and God only deserves our worship. God does not fear anything. He does however make it clear in the Ten Commandments and throughout His written Word that He alone is worthy of our worship.

Why the impression that God is "scared"?? God knows what is best for his creation and mankind and wants the best for them. To follow other, false gods would not lead to eternal life with him but eternal death. Satan is a wiley deceiver and the author of anything that would lead you away from the one true God.
