By far the British MBT Challenger 2, out in iraq the american equivilants couldnt keep up with the advance, although the challenger 2 had a few mods (making the challenger 2 oman) the funcionality of the tank was far superior to that of the americans. although the tank itself is by far the bast the americans have a far superiour comunications and satalite system than us brits, challenger 2 will probably adopt this in the near future.

Okay I have to agree with alot of the guys on here, I have to go with the M1 Abrahams, more specifically the M1A2 SEP. The previous answers specs are right, it is a fast manuevering and highly capable tank. The LEOPARD, Cheiftans and other Allied armor are all good but nothing in way of armor and firepower stands up to an Abrahms. There is a little notion of a mysterious T-80 russian tank but only "photographic" evidence is what they will show....so right now it is smoke and mirrors. Take it from a scout, I trust my armor brethren and have seen the other tanks in action...I stick with the Abrahms.

The M1A2 can track 5 targets at once, fire at a moving tank doing doing 45 mph, 2 miles away, while the M1A2 is doing 65 mph, on an angle, in a crosswind with temperature variations of air and ammo. The SABOT rounds are depleted uranium (harder than diamonds) as is the hull and turrett of the M1A2, virtually impenetrable. Therefore, it is the most powerful, best and strongest tank in the world.

Some of you people wouldn't know a tank from a Volkswagon Beetle.
When you refer to a "tank" its tracked vehicle with a huge gun mounted.
The M1A2 Abrams is currently the king of the hill, but the Germnan Leopard 2is very close.

Kind of hard to really say.
If you put the USA, German, British, Isreal, Russian tanks against each other, it would really depend on the crew's skills and training.
Meaning, even though the USA M1 might technically be best, if you had a green crew in the M1, a highly trained team in any of the others will come out the winner.
Hopefully this will always be a hypothetical discussion and never put to the test in real life.
