There are alot of wonderful vineyards out there. I really enjoy going wine tasting wherever we travel. California has some of the most beautiful ones, but the one thing I dont like about most of them is that they are soooo expensive to go tasting. I havent been to any on the east coast. I know there are some spectacular ones there though. I dont think I really have a "favorite" yet. The vineyards in Colorado are also beautiful and the best thing I like about them is that most of them are "FREE". Nothing like free wine tasting. ALWAYS take a designated driver! You are able to get a bit snockered.

I forget the name of the vineyard but its located in Chile and they make really good Merlot. Actually probably any Merlot from Chile would be good because of the location and soil. Yummy!
Also there is a vineyard in Oregon called Willamette Valley and their wine is very good too.
I went to the Biltmore in Asheville, NC and I was surprised that some of their wines were very very good. They have good Merlot and also a wine called Cardinal's Crest which is a combination of Merlot and something else. They also make great champagne.

Texas has many wineries. There are many around the Austin area, with some of the best being in Lago Vista. My favorite winery is Pleasant Hill in the small town of Brenham, TX, about a 90 min. drive from Houston. It is a small winery, tasting is free, and they go into a lot of detail about the wines. A particular favorite is their Rose wine (pronounces just like the flower). It is light red wine that goes great with everything including hamburgers, pizza, and pasta.

Shea vineyard in Oregon makes some of the best Pinot Noir in the world. It's my personal favourite.
