It seems on some issues, people cant help but reply as dimwittedly as possible. like this one... If I said... faith is a personal thing come to by different means and No person has a correct definition of god. You would say: (oh, please try NOT to prove my initial point right)

I guess a better question would have been why do people rationalize their beliefs the way they do? I personally was raised in christianity, christianity gave me some good morals, but not good understanding. When I believed in what they called god... he was "there". Was I just rationalizing all that I was receiving?

I get these comments too (on issues outside of religion mostly). Some things are just a matter of opinion and no one has the right to insult people on the basis of their opinions. I just brush them aside as pathetic people with nothing better to do than bash on people that they disagree with.

I would say:

I think you are completely wrong, and the problem is that as another human being, I cannot help but be concerned because of the magnitude of the consequences of being wrong on this topic.

Being wrong about who's going to win World Cup is a trivial thing. The only consequences are possible eating a little crow with your good friends.

Being wrong about the existence, identity and sovereign rule of God, and about the way of rescue He has provided for men and women, has grave consequences that will last longer than any human can even imagine.

This doesn't mean I'm better than you, smarter than you, more deserving than you, or has the right to shout louder in a conversation. It just means I am genuinely concerned for you and your eternity, whether you want me to be or not.

Some do that BECAUSE they can't give a good answer.

Second, the Bible has all you need to know about God. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.
It isn't faith that's the issue, it is the object of your faith. If you believe a different god, does this change who He really is?
Would you think I'm black when I could be white? Male or female? American or British. It is knowing Him. (Jeremiah 9:24)

The more a person disagrees with something the more emotional of a response you are going to get. People are emotional and defend their beliefs. By saying your beliefs are the correct ones you are saying thet theirs are wrong.

When I encounter someone with different beliefs I usually will ask questions about them. And if a person ask me in turn then the response tends to be more positive.

Human Beings are general stupid. Most people can't allow themselves to think out of the box. To learn and discover is a scary thing. They might just learn that they were wrong and that's a terrifying thought
