What is an anker? I know they use anchors to tie down moblies homes. Here in Florida, the anchors have to be buried 30 - 40 feet in the ground because of hurricanes and the moble homes that are new are built better here than what they uesd to be.

A tornado doesn't lift the whole house up and leave it in one piece. It is wind and rips off the weakest parts of the house first- usally the roof. An anchor a the base of the house would then be usless.

The main reason is because when a tornado hits, it doesn't lift the house up, it causes it to implode. An ANCHOR, would just be more debris flying at the neighbors house.

There really is no structural defense against a tornado except taking shelter underground. Anchors are only used on roof joists for hurricane type weather conditions.

It dedepends on the area that you live in, if its in an area with alot of tornedos then the newer homes might be built with something like that but I doubt if the real old homes would have anything .
