there are 3 plants (slaughter houses) in the U.S. that slaughter horses to send to their meat to europe where it is concidered a delicacy. These are horses that were trusted family pets, show horses, buggy horses, work horses and your childs pony. All they did wrong was that they were sold at an auction and it was a KILL BUYER that purchased them, not a show person, not the Amish and not another little boy or girl who thought Snowball was adorable. Just someone who saw $$$ per pound. Please do not believe theses are unwanted horses. Do you like to see horses running wild thru the desert...manes flowing in the breeze? See a couple stallions fighting over a herd of mares? Better look now, because Sheldon wildlife refuge is sending 12-1500 horses to slaughter as this post is being written. Some of those horses are wild mustangs from BLM land. Where will this stop? Ask your Congressman...please

Yes a lot of racehorses are being bought for slaughter. Auction houses that are known for selling to "killer buyers" are a great place to get a great horse/athlete/friend for cheap. There are programs out there that are dedicated to saving these animals before they ever hit the autcion houses. C.A.N.T.E.R. is the most famous. A lot of these horses comeoff the track and are prefectly sound for normal disciplines.

No they are not.. If you go to the auctions that are at the tracks, they make sure slaughters cant get in, they raise the prices. Also, if a owner is selling the TB, the majority of the time, the horse gets either to be a stud horse, a broodmare, or a jumping horse. Theres always other careers, just let the horse rest for awhile and it can be used for another career. We have gave a few way to families that didn't have much, they turned the horses into jumping and dressage horses, and the horses couldn't be happier. That or they can be used on a ranch herding cattle.

some fall through the ranks.
While you're painting that picture of horses running wild through the desert don't leave out the one of them starving to death, staggering, when feed supplies run out.
Far more than TBs are the grade quarter horses and others bred just for the 'experience' of having a foal then don't train it.
A TB with any kind of training and talent is open for another career.
And why is the mustang always singled out? There's less than 300 Florida Cracker horses in existance - no one boo hoos over them. The mustangs are no better for geography and are far more numerous.

Well I don't know about all that, but where I live they sell those horses in auctions and stuff. Actually we have an off the track race horse that someone had on their land. He's so sweet and good natured. But we rly don't slaughter horses here in the U.S. anymore, they are fortunatly going away, but I don't think it's rly that way in Europe, i've been there and I don't remember any horse burgers or glue or anything, so don't worry.

Slaughtering isn't ok. Thats more advantageous in words as sport or agency. Killing them for food is okay. Animals are right here for a reason. The regulation of nature is kill to devour or kill to steer away from being killed. yet besides, all of it comes right down to the feel of the beef. when you consider that horses are so muscular, their meat isn't sturdy for eating. also except being smarter than cows, (that you reported would not carry water) also they're more suitable. They make more advantageous effective artwork animals and transportation. Take it from someone who has spent purely about each and every summer season on a farm with cows for the previous 19 years -a cow shouldn't tolerate being ridden or labored. they're fairly lazy. Its so unhappy that they get killed until eventually human beings get hungry. .

Yes, unfortunately this is true & the horseracing industry is just a small part of the bigger picture. It is greed & spite that fuels this type of behavior along with cons & fradulant insurance claims on horses that have been "conterfited" & they must be destroyed before they are discovered & someone goes to prison! It happens so much & you would be amazed at the percentages of Congress people who are "investors" in racehorses. Things that make ya go hmmmmm!

Yes, I have eaten horse in Japan. It's good raw with with soy sauce and garlic. I doubt that's something that is going to end soon. People who make a living on the land can't afford to be so sentimental about animals. Whose to say that if horses become sacred, cows and chickens won't be next?
