My understanding is that river lifting is also referred to as sand lifting. The best way to describe it is the lifting away of the sand at the bottom of a river to create a deeper channel. This type of conservation is used in areas that are severly dry and drought prone. When river beds are on the verge of going dry the river bed is dug deeper so that more water drains in to the channel from which ever outlet or river supply the water. By doing this aquatic life stands a better chance of survival during drought seasons. The downside is that aquatic plants and vegetation are destroyed when the river bed is dug up.

The website that I listed explains the damages that is caused by sand lifting.

I think that by building a dam across a river, you lift the level of water inthe river. you basically stop the water that otherwise flows away. the raised water can be used for irrigation and also drinking.

You are conserving the water for better use .

It could be dredging of the river, removing stuff from the bottom and making it deeper so you have more stored water for other use.

But honestly this is my guess. Look up the dictionary.

This is very interesting. I might dig more into it. You dig more into it after finishing your project and will learn more.
