I thought I had a BAD yeast infection for a week now. So, I had my grandmother and father take me to the dr. I'm a 19 year old female. Anyways, he gave me my FIRST pelvic exam and diagnosed me with BV (Bacterial Vaginosis). I was using a cream before and he had to go past the cream and get a culture from there. It hurt REALLY bad and now, I'm having a yellow discharge. He put me on 2 meds. I bought myself some cleansing wipes, monistat itching powder, and vaseline to put there. It's helped, but what about this discharge? I didn't have it before, though it's a symptom of BV. Also, why would this hurt so bad? I'm still a virgin, not sexually active. I don't know if he broke my hymen or not, but everyone in the hospital heard me scream 'cause it hurt me so bad. I have to go for a FULL pelvic exam after I'm done with these meds. But, why did it hurt so bad? Why am I having this discharge AFTER he did this to me? Did he stir up the infection or something?

Very good question.
The bacteria that is growing down there makes it more sensitive. When he took a culture, he probably had to scrape the tissue on the inside, and because it had the infection it was probably all inflamed. It normally shouldn't hurt that bad though.
The yellow discharge isn't anything to worry about. That will stop after a little while.

It hurt so bad because you have an infection. A normal pelvic, even if you are a virgin, doesn't hurt like that. It is only uncomfortable. Think about other times you have had an infection. If it is irritated it hurts. They irritated the tissue to take a culture. I don't think he broke your hymen. He might have stretched it a little. I don't think you should be using those products. You need to call your doctor and tell them what you have been using and ask if they can give you something to help with the pain. You should also mention the discharge. It is probably OK, but you should still ask.

You may want to search Yahoo!Answers for this topic, as it is asked regularly, and has gotten some great answers.

If you started on antibiotic cream, and then stopped, that might have let the yeast really roar back. The discharge is part of the infection and probably was just revving up. I don't think the exam caused the discharge.

About the exam, if he had to go deep enough, he could have broken your hymen. Did you bleed? If you did not bleed, it may have just been the pain from having a speculum inserted into an unsuspecting vagina. The first time hurts, especially if you are tensed up due to not knowing what to expect.

In getting a good culture he had to sort of scrape you and this is why the pain. The discharge is from the infection. I would not use monistat unless he told me to. This could interfere with the meds he put you on.
