Usually, it means a spanking. But, my mother was too kind and gentle to ever do that. Clearly, crying means something. But if the child is doing it cuz she/he isn't getting their way, then actions should be taken, but nothing as such a spanking.

I don't think my mom ever said that so sorry I can't give you a good answer except I think had she said it I probably would have stopped. But my Mom and Dad were and still are great parents.

I don't remember my mom ever saying that. I was a good kid tho and didn't cry except as a baby. Kids are so spoiled now, they all throw temper tantrums. Bad parenting is the cause of that.

i never cried as a child
but my sister did and my mother would smack the back of her legs when she refused to stop crying.....which only made her cry more

My mum never said it to me but as a mum i hear it all the time in shopping centres and places like that and it makes me cringe!
