My dog is an Aussie Shepherd/Black Lab mix with pretty long hair. I've given her 2 haircuts so far with scissors. But that's really tedious and annoying for both of us. I want to just buzz it all off with clippers (just for the summer). I know dogs need their coat to stay warm, but our AC isn't always on and she's all black. I think it would make her a little more comfortable and she would shed less often. But we tried 2 different types of hair clippers (trimmers) and both failed. They were either too cheap or her hair was too thin or too thick. But either way, they wouldn't cut the hair, they'd just go right through it without cutting except for a few hairs here and there. I just wondered if there was a good brand of hair clippers out there that you've used and know that it works. I don't want to spend $50 on a set designed for pets if there are ones that work just as good for less. Also, I don't want it to cut down to the skin, just like 2" long. Please don't suggest a salon, thanks!

Pretty much any clippers should work as long as you oil the blades every couple of minutes that's what i did to my long haired dog and as far as length use the guards on the clippers go opposite way than what the hair goes

ok so you dont want to take it to a salon... but i do want to tell you that groomers go to school so they can do what you are asking so this is hard to do over the internet. if i where you i would go with the brand Oster, they make good clippers, but dont get the cheap ones they might not make it through the hair.
i do want to tell you how ever, if you do shave him there is a chance that his hair may grow back in unusal patterens with bald spots. this happen because the breed of dog you are talking to has hair that is not really good to be shaved. it is your choice but this does happen sometimes. i also would like to tell you to be sure not to use the clippers if they get hot, take a break and let them cool. if they get hot your dog will get a rash.

Take to groomer. There's NO Blade that'll do a 2in. clip!
Get combed & NOT CLIP!
There ya go. The ONLY 2 choices. Sorry,no magic wand.
