I lived in both cities and currently I live in NYC. I'm a flight attendant so that the reason behind that move. I have to say Dallas, it may not be the big apple but it's still diverse. It's cheaper to live in Dallas so u will live comfortable. There different areas in Dallas that u can have the status of Manhattan if u really want it. You can live at Park Cities (Highland Park/University Park) it's one of the most affluent neighborhood. You can live in Uptown Dallas which has a great nightlife and lovely condos/townhouses. They have opera, museums, great shopping and restaurants (more than NYC believe it or not). It has a great nightlife both str8 and gay. It also has amazing sports bars along McKinney Ave. I can go on forever, but i could say it cost me $40 dollars to get drunk in Dallas compared to $120 in NYC. There the main reason to move to Dallas.

Manhattan (not Manhatten) is a blast, and it's entirely possible that your wife will find many things to love about NYC that will take her mind off the big houses in Dallas (which, by the way, are hardly a bargain anymore).
In all fairness, though, it might help to (honestly) weigh the pros and cons of each compensation package beyond just the base salary. Combine that with the various "quality of life" indicators for each of the two cities, and this could help you make a fair assessment of both choices. If this causes one job offer to look a lot better than the other, that might help make the ultimate decision easier for the loser to accept.
I, however, am hardly impartial on the subject, and am eagerly awaiting an opportunity to return to visit Manhattan (and a few other boroughs as well). That said, I am not the best person to go to for a fair assessment of the quality of life in Dallas, a soggy hellscape of gridlock, big hair, and urban sprawl.
Best of luck to you on this delicate situation.

Manhatten. My Firm has an office there. I go every chance I get.
Been to Dallas too. Dallas is a nice town, but offers nowhere near as much as NYC.
Within driving distance (100 mile +/-) of NYC, you can be at the beach, lake, mountains, Conn., NJ, PA, Philly. Heck Wash. DC is only a 3.5 hour train ride.
Good Luck.

DALLAS, the surrounding communities are among the most diverse in the nation. Try pricing homes or comparable living. I moved here from IL. I have been here nearly two years.
My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. As far as status, don't overlook the "quiet south". Secondly, what did you say your wife wants? Speaking with 19 years of blissful marriage, listen to your wife. Besides, depending on your profession. The southwest is booming, especially if it's "status" you are after.

The way I see it, you have three choices: Stay with your wife and move to Dallas, move to NY and start a new life, or you each go to your prospective jobs & have a commuter marriage.
Personally? I'd move to Dallas - but this is coming from a military spouse standpoint - you move where the Navy sends you, no questions asked - if you want to keep your marriage stable and support & love your spouse.

Here think of it like this-
Dallas- people are great, nice , and caring
NYC- NOT!!!
IDK though dallas is great and the people are awesome, but this is something you need to talk about with your wife. New York is more hustle bustle while Dallas is still hustle bustle but less. Talk with your wife.
Also big houses in dallas aren't that cheap AT ALL!! but in the middle of nowhere like forney and others big houses are cheap. NOT dallas.

sit down with her and discuss the pros's and con's of relocating. Both Dallas and New York have their good parts and bad parts. I live in NY and my mom lives in Dallas. I would move there in a heartbeat only because I have been here all my life and I always feel welcome in Dallas. If you like warm weather, affordable HUGE houses, spicy food and cowboy attire, Dallas is the place. New York is for you if you like the fast pace, tiny boxes for houses and mild weather.

From having lived all over the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex for decades, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dallas or any of the many cities in the metroplex. You'd have to see the variety you get to believe it. God Bless you.

Dallas is hot in the summer & NY is cold in the winter. Go with whether or not you like shoveling snow or 110 F summer days.

Move to Brooklyn. Its friendly has good food and you can find anything you ever want there. The weather is better than in Texas and it is the Big Apple after all. I believe that your wife will find it provides many opportunities not available elsewhere.
