"The BEST sangria recipe I've been able to hone to perfection! If you like a sweeter Sangria, use ginger ale in place of club soda."
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup brandy
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup frozen lemonade
concentrate
1/3 cup orange juice
1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry red
wine
1/2 cup triple sec 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
1 orange, sliced into rounds
1 lime, sliced into rounds
1/4 cup white sugar (optional)
8 maraschino cherries
2 cups carbonated water
(optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a large pitcher or bowl, mix together the brandy, lemon juice, lemonade concentrate, orange juice, red wine, triple sec, and sugar. Float slices of lemon, orange and lime, and maraschino cherries in the mixture. Refrigerate overnight for best flavor. For a fizzy sangria, add club soda just before serving.

This sangria recipe is a hit for our family. I even use it as a punch starter sometimes. We drink it more when it is really hot out but we also enjoy it year round.
Sangria Recipe
Ingredients:
1 large bottle or red or white wine.
2 tablespoons of sugar.
1 thinly sliced orange.
1 thinly sliced lemon.
1 thinly sliced lime.
1 quart of club soda.
2 dozen or so maraschino cherries. Sometimes I add a little of the juice to give it more of a cherry flavor.
Directions:
Combine everything together (except the club soda) and let sangria sit in the refrigerator over night. Add the club soda right before serving.
When I want a non-alcoholic version I use white grape juice instead. My kids love their own sangria.
I have also used part red wine and part white wine as well. You can add a little brandy to the sangria recipe if you would like as well.

Regardless of the recipe you choose, here are a few pointers:
1. use simple wine (white or red). Avoid wines with heavy oak character or aggressive tannins, as they can make for a bitter sangria. An inexpensive Italian Montepulciano d'Abruzzo should work well, for example.
2. use fresh fruit. Chop a variety of fruits, including limes, lemons, honeydew melon, strawberry, cantaloupe melon, apple, pear, pineapple and orange. Go easy on the orange...it tends to overwhelm. Citrus (lemon and lime) is essential, whereas other fruits can be omitted or substituted as available. Also, no need to peel the fruit.
3. be generous with the brandy! Using cognac is delicious, if expensive. Simple brandies work just fine.
4. use brown sugar to sweeten to taste; it is richer flavored and dissolves easily.
5. allow everything to macerate overnight. The flavors integrate and gives the best taste. Keep refrigerated, and a batch should last a week, easily.
6. serve on ice.
7. my favorite style is white wine with mint, chopped ginger, and assorted fruit (particularly pineapple).

Yes, they do use brandy in Sangria.
I just saw a recipe for Pineapple Sangria using pineapple juice, Pear Brandy and white wine. Yum. Sorry I don't have quantities--I'm an eyeball it kind of bartender.
