You need to do a slow introduction. Place a couple of baby gates in an opening to a room. Place the dog on one side and the cat on the other. Let them be able to see each other. Dogs are easier than cats at this. When your dog stops barking or growling at the cat treat and praise. Once they are able to look at each other through the gates without hissing or barking you can go to the next step. Have a friend sit with your cat on his/her lap on the couch. Make sure the cat is comfortable and relaxed. Place your dog on a lead and stand at the entrance to the room. Let the dog and cat see each other at a comfortable distance. If everything goes calmly, praise your dog ad take one step closer with the dog. If the dog or cat react badly, remove the dog and start again 30mins later. You should be able to slowly take steps closer to the cat every time. This will take a few days. Every time you should enter the room with your dog, (on the lead), and take a step closer. You should always wait and be relaxed for at least 10 - 15mins each time. Using a chair to sit on will help, and slowly move the chair closer to the cat. Soon you will have both the cat and the dog sitting next to each other comfortably. This takes time and patience.

I'm not so sure that you can make animals 'be best friends'. Some animals just don't get along, some animals are just antisocial.
You can try though. First, you have to treat each one equally...if you favor one then the other will get jealous. If you spend more time with one the other will not like it.
Both animals are young, so they have lots of energy...as they grow older and see each other every day they should adjust to each other. If they get to hang around each other that is, assuming you don't keep the cat upstairs and the dog in the basement all day..

first of all in my opinion a pitbull is not even a pet, they are vicious animals, some are depending on how you raise them, but as far as your kitty and your dog maybe it will take some time for them to get used to one another,on the other hand don`t wait too long because you may have a dead kitty and you can`t make your pets get along, they do or they don`t simple.if they don`t get along then i`d get rid of one or the other, sooooooo much simplier rather than to have to babysit two animals so they don`t fight. not worth it.like i said a pitbull is a very mean animal, many have seriously hurt people,kids,etc.. how many lives does a cat have ????

That is what pit bulls do best: bite! They need separate living quarters. Dog gets the yard & garage. Cat gets the house.

The pit bull will kill the cat so get rid of one of them for the life of the cat. Get real!

Pitbulls and many other dogs have a high prey drive. Many dogs are easily accustomed to cats, but I feel that a pitbull is not one of those dogs. I don't think you should try.

Let them be. They are both very young and will get used to each other soon. Then you can sit back and watch them play.
