There are horizontal bars goings through the TV image. It sometimes looks as if the whole image itself is shaking. What if wrong with it? Can it be easily fixed?

You can view a video of it here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=U3zLCHPik7c

Jimbob's probably closest to right here.
Probably dried out Electrolytics - not leaky.
It happens a lot with the vertical section in many makes, partly because a few Caps are usually mounted too close to the heat sink and live a short life because of the heat.
Don't know what year those other guys are living in. For example, you won't find a Vert. Hold control on a 6 year old TV.

Saw ur vid. That is what is known as "vertical fold over" The age of the set doesn't justify the cost to get that fixed. At best it may be a vertical driver, but is more apt to be a vertical yoke problem. The set is too old, so even finding parts for it is not going to be easy. The yoke it's self could cost upwards of $75 and the service to replace it (re-converging et al) over a hundred.

Look on the back of the set for a vertical hold control....it may be on the bottom also....there will be a hole and you will either need a small screwdriver or a tv alignment tool....you can pick a pack of these up for 2 or 3 bucks at radio shack. Its not vertical foldover either...its a vertical sync problem....if you cant adjust it out or there isnt a control pitch it! It aint worth fixing.

Hate to say it because of the large amounts of waste we generate but in today's market it is cheaper to replace than repair. (If it is out of warranty.) Also think about if the TV is at an age where something is going bad, you might fix that then something else will go wrong.
