When HDTV becomes the standard, CRT televisions will rapidly become extinct. If you look at the current assortment of TVs available, you will notice that there are CRT HDTVs available. The screen size is limited by the glass envelope necessary for a CRT, and the weight of these units is unbelievable. LCD and plasma TVs offer better resolution and larger formats, and they will continue to grow in popularity, pushing out the antiquated CRT technology.

It depends. Here is an example of something that can upset you with a plasma flat screen.
CRTs don't have dead pixels, but plasma screens can. You get a brand new $3,000 50 inch plasma TV and it has 7 dead pixels in it. You try to return it, but they say it needs 8 dead pixels before you can declare it defective. This is the case with one store when I was looking at HTDVs. You will notice the dead pixels. Plasma TVs also have color loss on them over time. If you don't get a flat screen with 1080p, you will have a hard time playing video games on it to the full effect.
Flat screens right now are like European wines and CRTs are like California wines. You might have an excellent or a very poor experience with a flat screen, but you will have a average to excellent experience with a CRT.

When you say "flat screen" you mean "thin screen". The new CRT's are flat screen crt's. They are sold as both analog and digital ready and are less prone to reflections and are selling for around $250 in large screen formats. The thin screen market is still quite expensive and the cost of maintenance on a "big screen" projector set is a waste of money.

Yes. They are easier (cheaper) to ship because they are lighter and take up less space so manufacturers like them. Consumers like the flexibility being able to hang them on the wall and you can have the large screen without the depth required by CRTs. And they look cool.
You can tell what has happened over the last 5 years to prices so it won't be long before they are the same price as CRTs.

lol it depends on what you mean. Almost all nice tvs are plasma, lcd, or some other flat screen tech. my dad and I install very nice audio/video systems (think MTV Cribs) and i don't think we have ever installed a CRT.

I dont think so. Even though flat screens are cool they arent fixable. once it breaks its over. I perfer the old models. Even though they are big and inconvenient sometimes you still can get good quality
