From what I've read, it's usually caused by people taking a variety of different prescription drugs and smoking. The chemical reaction apparently is enough to cause the combustion. I've heard of people living through it, just losing a limb.
But it's still weird, unless you're the drummer for Spinal Tap!

There has been enough people witnessing it happen to say that PROBABLY it is real.The problem is that, when it happens, you burn so fast, there is no time for anyone to save you. So there is only a really charcoal body for doctors to exam. Usually happens when you have very dry skin and there is very low humidity in the air.
Fortunately it is VERY RARE. I read about only 4 cases in 100 years.

in theory its real, but the cause is unknown. you don't burst into flames but there is a chemical reaction that seems to show signs of charing and 2nd/3rd Degree burns. its not been proven to be scientifically POSSIBLE...yet there are cases of it happening.

As far as is it real, there is some pretty convincing evidence. I saw a thing on the discovery channel about it a while back. Eerie!

according to a friend of mine that is a retired arson investigator, yes it is real. People have been known to spontaneous com bust.

I think you watch way too much TV. Don't believe everything you see on Discovery channel. Remember that you're paying for entertainment.
