yes, prayer is for concerns according to gods will, not mans.
chaz, you are dead. but do not even know it. that is why none of the bible makes sense to you. But did you know? the stand you take against the bible was prophesied in the bible?
you are one of the ridiculers that any moderately serious bible reader was told to watch for, and, ta da! here you are!
thank you for proving gods' word trustworthy.

I'm afraid there are far too many "Christians" who think God is the big Santa Claus in the sky...they pray to Him for material things, and then get upset when they don't get them.
There is so much more to having a relationship with God than a big bank account, or a beautiful home, or a fancy car!
God yearns for us so much, that He willingly became flesh for us...He walked as a Man among men, He experienced everything any man experiences, He was tempted in all ways like any other man...He taught us how to live in peace with Him and with each other, and most of all, with ourselves...and He ultimately sacrificed that flesh on the altar of our salvation.
He offers us the gift of eternal life!
What material thing could He possibly offer that would be more precious than Himself?

Prayer is not some reminder, God gives his children good things, and you know what, he likes to do it to make us happy.. How about that. If I ask my heavenly Father, he will give me things just because I have asked.. You can not beat our Heavenly Father.. he is the greatest.
Mat 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Mar 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
LOOK at that he says whatever I desire, not need, desire, pray and believe and I will have them. He is so great. When you are a Christian you never know when some miracle or good thing is going to happen in your life. A christians life is always full of good things that his Father is doing for him.. Sometimes we are just thinking of something and He says Ok this is for you and here it is.. You just don't know what you are missing by not being in contact with God..

I agree that most poeple treat god like Santa Clause, but it is not sinful to pray for our needs, so long as we are not asking to "fulfill [our] own lusts." I try to pray the Philippians 4:6 way. "Be careful for nothing, but IN EVERYTHING by prayer and suppication WITH THANKSGIVING let your requests be made known unto God."

Consider picking up a great book on prayer is "Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer" by C.S. Lewis. It's a very thoughtful look at prayer.

These prayers are of beggers not spiritualists.
A spiritual person... sings out of joy for HIM...he does not ask for anything.. because he does not need anything.. He is aware of the great gift god has already given to him

You're right, most christians view God as a celestial santa clause. However, every christian (including catholics) are on a Holy journey, not only to know God better, but to know ourselves better through God. "....For where your treasure is, so there your heart is also." - Matthew 6:21

We should pray like the tax collector who said he was not worthy to pray to God. We should praise him. We should pray for our enemies. We should pray for others and then we should pray for ourselves. There is nothing wrong with asking God to help us, but we should not neglect to pray for his blessing on others as well

Pray to Her? What for?
Here's why I don't choose Her.
What is the Imacculate Conception supposed to mean?
(NOT A VIRGIN BIRTH! - betcha)
Jesus, the basis of Christianity? .
If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.
Gods do not die? Do they?
If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?
Did Jesus give up Saturday for us? Big deal!
If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.
If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!
If you swallow this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to swallow it too.
They want everyone to convert to their non-thinking.
