I'm not sure if my answer is right, but I think it's a car.
Cars dont need thier headlights in the day, but at night they do. And cars can only take oil, gas or anti freeze-liquids.
If a person gets tired of walking they can drive their car or if they are tired of driving they can pull over and rest somewhere and be sheltered from wind, rain or snow inside.
