This started not very long ago- at first I thought it was from new shampoo-conditioner I was using, but even after I stopped use, it continues.
My hair is slightly sticky/greasy-looking, on the top of my scalp after I wash my hair. It really acts as if I had put gel in it there.
I thought maybe it was from the new shampoo-conditioner so after I stopped use my mom tried washing that area of my head with vinegar- which helped for a while and I thought it was gone, but it is back (and i have not used that shampoo or conditioner).
It is the strangest thing and I have no idea where it is coming from. Does anyone have any ideas of what is happening or how to fix it? My family and I are all baffled.

Ok, sorry, just to clarify- I am not having a dandruff problem, or an unusually oily hair problem- what I meant to say was that my hair *looks* greasy as it dries after I wash it and it *feels* like I have put gel on it- note that all of this is only in a small area on the top of my head- not my whole scalp.
And, those of you suggesting it is something about my diet or that I should change my diet- could you be more specific? What kinds of dietary things could do this (and my diet isn't different than my family's- and none of them have this) and what dietary changes could help fix it?

After you wash your hair, pour a cup of half and half mixture of vinegar and water as a rinse. This will eliminate the sticky/ greasy feeling and you hair will be very shiny to boot. You might try washing you hair with "Dawn" and cold water. Most times this helps too.

It could just be a simple product build up. My suggestion is to buy a clarifying shampoo and once a week mix some baking soda and tea tree oil into your shampoo and give your hair and scalp a good scrub. Rinse it out completely then mix about 1/4-1/2 c. vinegar into your conditioner. Leave it in for 5 minutes then rinse it completely out. The vinegar smell won't stay. Air dry your hair and don't put any products in it. On the other hand, your scalp may be extra oily from over compensating from dryness. You may actually have a dry scalp, even though it seems oily. If this is the case (which it may be if the above doesn't work after 2-3 months) then you may want to go the opposite route and only shampoo three times a week (it could be difficult for a while) and rub olive oil or jojoba oil on your scalp and give it a good massage the night before each washing. Leave it in over night. Does your shampoo and conditioner have wax in it? Suave is known for it and so are some Herbal Essences. A good brand is John Frieda or Matrix. Also be sure you are eating well and drinking enough water! And be sure you are using enough shampoo to cover every inch of your scalp! Good luck!

Maybe you need to get a clarifying shampoo that really will strip your hair of all the build-up from the atmosphere and from products that you use in your hair. If you get one that solely says clarifying, probably only use it about twice a week. I'd also make sure to use a good conditioner though mainly on your ends to keep them from drying out too bad.
That's the only "normal" kind of remedy I can suggest. If it continues I would definitely see a doctor/dermatologist about it. Don't know what it could be because I've never heard of a clinical term for something like that, but I'm sure there's something!

My hair has been like that when i have build up. Just take your favorite shampoo and put some in your hand. Then add baking soda to it and rub your hands together then wash your hair. You may have to repeat this again. Then I would follow that with straight shampoo to get all of the baking soda out. After that use your conditioner as normal.
This should help!!!

Try using a de-toxifying product. Alternatively, cut your shampoo with water. Start with 1 part water to 3 parts shampoo, and then change it to 1 part water to 2 parts shampoo. Do 1 part water to 2 parts conditioner, or 1 part water to 1 part conditioner.
Maybe a dermotologist would be a good person to see. S/he could tell you if it was a skin problem or reaction triggered by the shampoo. I might even see if other people have had the same problems with the same shampoo.

What are you using now? I'm assuming that you still use a shampoo&conditioner in one. Stop. Use a shampoo, rinse, REPEAT, make sure it's rinsed all the way out. Get a leave in conditioner. After you get out of the shower, towel dry, put a SMALL amount of conditioner on the ENDS of your hair. Wash your hair EVERYDAY. When I was in high school, my hair would get oily fast so I had to wash everyday. Now my hair isn't that way anymore. It's hormones, it will change a few more times in your life. So don't worry. Hope this helps.
