i served in the USAF and i believe in god, anyone who wants to remove god from anything needs to go talk to the vets laying in the hospital because they gave a huge piece of themselves for GOD COUNTRY and FAMILY and explain to them that they did not lose a part of their body for GOD because that is not politically correct. those liberal dumb @##es in Washington need to go to war and see who they would pray to when they see their best friend is blown into 20 pieces not 10 feet from them. then i bet god would be back in style. GOD BLESS ALL OUR TROOPS.

I am not deeply religious but your question just brought to mind a quote my mother frequently used "An Idle mind is the devils workshop". These people have way to much time on their hands and spend it wallowing in their selfish, miserable and potentially dangerous ignorance. I am sick and tired of people who want to impose censorship on anything they don't like and expect the rest of the world to conform. Its pretty sad when it has come to the point that they want the pledge of allegiance rewritten. What will they want us to rewrite next time? The bill of rights, constitution, the Bible???. They obviously have no respect for our, history, traditions and the millions of people from all over the world who sacrificed their lives to maintain our basic freedoms. And speaking of freedom these people are free to not say the pledge. Not to believe in God and they are also free to leave the country. So why dont they go to a country that the words "Under God" are not in their pledge and leave the rest of us in peace.
This is as pathetic as LA having to spend a ton of money because some one was offended by the cross in the city seal and wanted it redesigned. This meant they would have to reprint business cards stationary and remove the seal from the city vehicles and reapply a newly designed version. Give me a break these people need to get a life.

I personally don't say it, and don't think it should be there! It wasn't in the original pledge, and it shouldn't be there now. What ever happened to the United States not encouraging any one religion? It's sad that we should even have argue about it being removed. Yes, I know that a lot of people in the US do believe in God, but not all of us do! How would the Christians like it if the pledge said, "Under Buddha" or "Under Evolution"?

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States originated on Columbus Day, 1893. It contained no reference to Almighty God, until in New York City on April 22, 1951, the Board of Directors of the Knights of Columbus adopted a resolution to amend the Pledge of Allegiance as recited at the opening of each of the meetings of the 800 Fourth Degree Assemblies of the Knights of Columbus.

So it was the catholics that added the "under god" reference. So if the original author did not want it in there or write it in there, then why are people complaining when they are just trying to make it as originally written. If this is a country that is truly based upon freedoms, including to worship or not worship as you choose, it should not be an issue. I served 4 years in the military to guarantee the freedom to be able to make my say and my stand, and if I choose not to worship your god, then that is my right. I worked for it, did you??

It was the same people that went around accusing people of being communist for not being the same as them in the 50's that added this "under god" reference, isn't it time that we correct the witch hunt that was started during a time of fear?

I find it sad when people want "under God" removed from the pledge. Our nation was truly founded under God's guidance and mercy, and there is no reason to pretend that it was not through revisionist history. I am aware that not every founder of the nation was an exemplary Christian, but yet the vast majority of them did have real faith in God and trusted that our nation would always be under the guidance of the one true God.

I believe that they need to go back to their own countries & keep their opinions to them selves. Our for fathers faught to free this country & the government is kissing butt & not taking care of their own people. If Our polititons don't like " Under God" in the pledge of allegiance they need to stop & remember who put them in office & Why we have a great country. We have a great country but our goverment sucks. We are suppos to have freedom of religion & prayer & it is being taken away from us

That is dumb. Just look at the documents founding this nation. The Declaration of Independence. The US Constitution. If you removed references to God, then they would be blank and utter nonsense. Except for God, this nation would never have existed. How could you even imagine such a thing?

Seems alot of people don't mind it at all, it's just a few people that have somthing against faith that have really big mouths about it being offensive to them. I think they should leave it alone because no one is forced to say it. You can't remove every reference about God just because you don't like it. Those people need to get a life, there's so much more important things to deal with everyday. They should be thankful to be living in America.

Since there are all sorts of religious references in the founding documents of the United States, "Under God" should be left in. The wonderful thing about the US is that if you do not like it, they will allow you to leave.

I think that the pledge should stay EXACTLY as it is. If God is just a word, then what is everyone so afraid of?
