It isn't that they 'follow' certain parts of the bible as much as apply the blessings promised in the bible.
Today, christians rarely trouble themselves with what requirements are involved when desiring god's gifts. Rather, they arbitrarily 'save themselves' through a false hope that all they need is 'faith'.
But as I have observed time and again on this forum, their is little to no substance to the claims of salvation.
If one expects to receive the blessings of everlasting life, but disregards the effort of studying the word of god to find out what is acceptable to him, than, it is ludicrous to think that god will just somehow toss aside his own requirements to accommodate all the lazy people with their unrealistic expectations.
The simple truth? denominations are proof of deceitful men drawing men to follow themselves, thus putting a stumbling block in the path of weak minded persons to full of apathy as regards their own wish for eternal life.

There is no doubt that there are many denominations because different groups emphasise different doctrines or portions of the Bible, but most Christians do not see the contradictions you see because when you study it extensively you find there really aren's any contradictions. What you are calling contradictions are not if you look at the total picture.

It's not possible because the Bible contradicts itself.
Just one example: In Genesis God tells people to be vegetarian. After the flood he says to eat meat, as long as it doesn't have blood in it. In Deuteronomy, there are detailed laws on eating kosher, such as not not mixing meat with dairy. Jesus said not to worry about it, or even to wash your hands before eating. St Paul agreed, but said Jewish Christians could continue following Jewish dietary laws if they wanted to. In the end, a council determined non-Jewish Christians still had to refrain from eating meat with blood in it, or anything strangled.
How could you possibly follow ALL this dietary advice at the same time?

People pick based on how they feel. If christians followed the whole bible they would still find ways to argue because it isn't clear to us what the writers would mean. Following everything to the letter wouldn't improve anything.

You can already see the effects of Christians that follow the Bible.
Christians were the people that started hospitals, orphanages, nurses
Salvation Army, the first people to go to Louisiana to help were churches
that followed the whole Bible. The Bible says what the work of believers
should be. Joh 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (the him is Jesus)
In Christ in Love,

Really? Do you keep Kosher? Do you advocate stoning adulterers to death? Do you have as many wives as Solomon?
No Christian keeps every word of the Bible!

The world would be turned upside down (Acts 17:6) for Christ. We would live in a radically different, better place.

Pick and choose:
What is the Imacculate Conception supposed to mean?
(NOT A VIRGIN BIRTH! - betcha)
Jesus, the basis of Christianity? .
If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.
Gods do not die? Do they?
If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?
Did Jesus give up Saturday for us? Big deal!
If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.
If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!
If you swallow this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to swallow it too.
They want everyone to convert to their non-thinking.
