Out in the wild before dogs were peopleized, they would turn in a circle to pat the grass down and make a bed. Now it is engraved in their genes.

Oh, well, I guess, and I'm absolutely certain that it is the habit of dogs... Turn in cricles, and lay down... But....... are you sure??? Does it happen often? or you have just seen it once...? I agree with you when you said, it was from their ancestors... It could be...

They build an invisible barier between themselves and any thing else that might would try to enter their area it is just a natural instinct some dogs today still carry it makes them feel secure some people call this denning.

Because before they were "mans best friend" they use to be cave mans best friend and that's what their ancestors use to do... wolves do it also so do other animals of that nature
