No matter how many windows I have open (or how few), when I open a new window its size is
only about one-third of the screen--in the center.

Your readers have answered so fast, but
I guess I didn't explain myself well enough. I must have changed some setting because previously the new window would open to full size before I even had to Max it.

1. Open a new window (specific to programs; browser windows have a different registry settings than explorer windows). Make sure that it is THE ONLY WINDOW OPEN.

2. Maximize the window (I'm sure you know how to do this).

3. Close the window. Windows will remember the last window size of a program.

4. When you launch the program again (I assume IE/Firefox) the window will open maximized.

Note that if you launch the program through a different icon than the ones you use to do the steps above (from start menu/quick launch rather than the desktop icon), the new window size is not registered on that icon. You have to do the same steps again for that icon.

That is not what is being asked. I am sure EVERY one know how to maximize a window.
I have the same problem. When I open in a new window it is small. I have maximized it many times, have changed the size, it always opens as a small window.
Want to try again?

Click on the square box at the top right hand corner of the new open window. This will maximize it.

Click on the maximize option in the upper right hand corner. When you close the window and reopen it, it should open normal size.

Now....Open only one window ( If this is not proper length/place...that's ok ) actual click on the job bar ( the single on the backside with clock on the top ) go with the two "Tile Window Horizontally" or "Tile Window Vertically" ...does not count. Now...You single window, will occupy the completed laptop. formerly you do something, merely close it...good ( document=>close or document=>go out ) that's it. next time you open the window, this is going to likely be good sized and located. let us know the way all of it labored out
