What would the other person say/do to impress you on your first date?

A good friend of mine told me a while ago that when you take someone on a date you should treat it as if you are their babysitter. I was taken aback, but it is true. He should know. He's a pretty popular gentleman and knows how to "treat the ladies!" What would really impress me would be someone completely planning out the evening and including three or four things for us to do, not just the customary one or two. They should stay flexible, friendly and spontaneous, though. On the first date for my now husband and I, he invited me to play LaserTag: two grown ups playing LaserTag!? We played with a party load of 7 year old boys and had such a blast. After that, we went to a few other places and have never parted since. He was impressed that I was willing to sweat....especially on a first date. I was impressed that I would always have a play mate, no matter my age!

I'm female, so an impresive date would be a guy that took the time to plan something interesting, fun, that allowed us to get to know each other (that IS the point of a date...)
I'd be impressed by a man who is chivalrous- this shows respect and appreciation.
I would also appreciate inteligent conversation- polite, curious, informed, etc.

Well, if I went on a date with a woman and she was intelligent, kept a good conversation, wasn't self-centered, nor judged me just on looks and took the time to get to know me during the date, I would really be impressed.

I suppose if she gave it up and I respected her in the morning, that would be impressive...
Kidding...I think if a girl would approach the first date more relaxed, tried to enjoy herself and have fun, I would be very impressed.

Intelligent conversation, but not a motormouth. A very good give and take in conversation with thoughtful answers and good recoveries from bad answers, but still having a sence of indiviuality in point of views.
