Luke 13
6Then he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. 7So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, 'For three years now I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?'

8" 'Sir,' the man replied, 'leave it alone for one more year, and I'll dig around it and fertilize it. 9If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.' "

Lucky me - Maybe to some. Can you not think of something to say? Why must you answer with such rudeness?

Pondering wisdom you are truly that. Your last paragraph makes me sorry for my previous statement to lucky me. Maybe I shouldn't jump to her being intentionally rude. She may have wisdom to share as well, maybe she didn't understand what I was asking.

In this parable, the owner represents God, the fig tree represents a Christian on earth, and the man who takes care of the garden could be said to be the Holy Spirit. Here Jesus is illustrating the productive life of a Christian. Or lack of it. By becoming a Christian alone, one produces fruit just by the fact that friends and family, or people at his or her workplace or school, notice a change. Or at least, they should. There should be a change in the way that that person, now a Christan's, acts and talks, and in that person's habits. But, if a person takes on Christianity as, say, a label, will not have ay changes in their life out of love for God. Or even if a person does become a Christian, and acts like one for a little while, but falls to temptation continually, to the point of not caring, they become just as they were before, and essentially "throw God out the window". And God is saddened by these people, because they've said by their actions that they don't care about God, or the sacrifice that Jesus made for them, they just wanna do their own thing. And, God says "OK, but remember the price tag: the fires of hell.". Of course, sometimes they catch God's reminder and return, and sometimes they just ignore Him. I hope that this helps, God bless!

Perhaps the man who looks for fruit and does not see it is like society, the people are around us. They may look at our shortcomings, our failures, our lack of good behavior, our rudness, selfishness, all this and say that we are hopeless.

God is like the wise gardener who sees potential even in the most barren empty stick and knows with a little tending and nurturing there is good fruit just around the corner, even though all we see now are just dry empty twigs.

So as we are tempted to write somone off as rude, uncaring, hateful, stupid, insensitive, the parable cautions us that with some of the right ingredients, these lives too might bear fruits of goodness.

The man with the fig tree is impatient. Either that, or he didn't plant a fig tree and was hoping it'd bear fruit.

There are just some rude people that don't understand the Bible and want 2 points..
I see this as the christian that doesn't give fruit and is getting like a second chance. or 3rd chance..

It sounds like God doesn't give up on a backslidden Christian easily. He gives them plenty of chances, even bringing things into their lives to help them bear fruit. But, there comes a point when God must punish them because they are not being who they are supposed to be.

Jesus is saying, when you witness to a person and try to get them to understand, they will not always except him the first time. Sometimes you will have to work harder and work with them to get a better understanding of what God, and Jesus has done for them before they will except the Lord God as their Savior.

This tells us about God and his Son.

At first God wanted to destroy the World remember? Noahs flood.

Then he changed his mind. He changed his mind because Jesus was gonna make things right :)
