They are idol worshipers. But they are worshiping an idol thats full of love. I think there is no wrong for anyone to believe in Jesus as special just as there is nothing wrong in you not believing so.
I don't think your sock puppet is so, I mean full of love... But even if anyone worship a sock puppet there is nothing wrong. It is up to any individual to do what they wish. You have not researched and found out the results on your own. So there is no point in criticizing others. I would suggest you not to feel much pity for these things. There is a lot of other things in the world which needs your pity.
Am not a Christian but a Hindu. Its important to have religious tolerance whether we follow a religion or not.

You'd do better with a bit of respect for people you don't agree with. If we cannot grant some respect to people different than ourselves, there is no way to live in a community. In the end, that makes you suffer too. That does not seem too wise.
