I was in NY twice over the past few months, and the only touristy restaurants were in hotels and the theater district. There is one exception in the theater district, Bond 45. It's an excellent Italian restaurant. If you're staying in a hotel, check with the concierge. They will be able to suggest places that are not touristy. Another great place that we expected to be touristy, but wasn't at all, is Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's restaurant). It's in the Flat Iron area. It's very unassuming, and we actually had a hard time finding it because of that.

This one is touristy and overpriced, but the view is incredible. The top of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square has a revolving restaurant and bar called The View. The food is excellent, or you can just go up the bar and enjoy a few cocktails and the amazing view.

Enjoy your trip!

If you want to avoid touristy restaurants, try checking out the Tribeca area. Its close by the World Trade Center - 9/11 site.

There are many great restaurants here, however, many tend to be on the pricier side as well and some need reservations.

For a good restaurant that usually isn't too crowded try the following in that area:

1) Dominic - http://www.dominicrestaurant.com/
- Italian/mediterranean cuisine but absolutely fantastic with great ambiance

2) Fresh - on Reade between Broadway and Church
- as the name states, very fresh seafood

3) Takahachi - on Duane between Church and West Broadway
- very good Japanese that is well liked by people in the neighborhood - sit at the bar and watch the master sushi chef at work, he is amazing

If you want real elegant and fancy then

- Nobu (where Iron Chef Morimoto used to work before opening up his own restaurants)
- Bouley (fantastic French - the entry corridor smells wonderful too) - https://www.davidbouley.com/
or his Austrian restaurant Danube
- Tribeca Grill (Robert De Niro's place)
- Dylan Prime (great steakhouse)
- Scalini Fedeli (great italian) - http://www.scalinifedeli.com/scaliniNYC/scaliniNYCMain.html
- 66 (one of Jean-Georges Vongerichten's restaurants - asian fusion cuisine) - http://jean-georges.com/

Bon appetit!

I lived in NYC for years and ate out a few times a week. The Meat Packing Dist can be a bit touristy....but you can try El Cid - THE VERY BEST TAPAS ON EARTH! Call them to make a reservation - number can be found on Citysearch.com with a review. Also try Markt (yes, that's how it is spelled). Amazing seafood etc...Heart of MPD and great beer selection and hopping bar. Or for yummy Cuban/Mexican food go to Son Gubano (also in MPD). Great bar scene and food! Enjoy and good luck!

Depending upon what kind of food you like there are a number of restaurants that are owned by a corporation named BR Guest. They are through out NYC and are trendy and good. You can go to their webstie www.brguestrestaurants.com to see a list of their restaurants and menus. Also if you are in NYC during the week of July 10 and July 17 you are in luck- it is restaurant week! During the week a number of places have 3 course lunches for $25 and 3 course dinners for $35.
if you enjoy Greek/Medeterranian food try www.molyvos.com - great food and service- not overly expensesive. Have fun!
