The type of dye you used doesn't have ammonia in it like another poster stated. Those dyes are used to either match your colour or add colour back in ( when you pre lighten) Ive been a hairdresser for over 2 years and i found that the colour that they have in the stores are just the same as what you would get in a salon....that is if you know what your doing.
Hair colouring or correcting is like chemistry, you need to balance out the pigments you have in your hair, for example, if your hair has a green shade to it, you need to add red to balance it out , same for yellow/orange tint will go away if you use a blue/purple based toner etc.
Box dyes usually are in 20 volume and sometimes you may need to go up or down in volume to get what you want, and that's why people go to a salon to get it done, b/c it will be done right, and if it is int they will correct it free of charge. If you do it at home and you end up with green hair it will cost more to fix it in a salon b/c its not longer a colour is a colour correction.
Also even if you have ammonia in the product, the colour might not lift if you have existing permanent dye in your hair , b/c colour doesn't lift colour) the example they give on the side of the box is for virgin hair only.
Hope any of this novel i wrote helps :)lol
good luck! ;)

It didn't lighten because Natural Touch does not contain ammonia. The combination of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide in most hair color kits is what makes hair lighten in the process. Without the ammonia/hydrogen peroxide combo the hair color basically just adds color but will not lighten the hair itself. The whole point of the Natural Touch line is to try to match your color, so they did not put the ammonia so the hair would not be lightened in the process by very much, so there is not going to be a big difference in hair colors. The shade difference is not a huge range and I would say you can only go a shade or two lighter with that particular product. I would suggest either going for highlights or a different line of coloring kits that contains ammonia if you want to see lighter results.

The problem was using a product with a 20 volume peroxide developer which lifts up 2 shades all you needed was 10 volume. However, you can easily tone your hair back down a shade by applying a non-peroxide color Redken has some wonderful colours called shades EQ ask you haircare professional.

I know it doesnt make it seem like this on the commercials...but thing thaat u buy at the grocery store are not going to lighten it. The damaging chemicals are horrible for your hair. I would ONLY recommend using Drig store products to darken hair. Then it works. Dont use that cheap crap. go to a salon and pay money for it. your hair will thank you.Hope this helps.

well, at least it didn't turn green...lol
when you lighten your hair, you can't just dye it...you have to actually take your color out...which is bleaching...
that's why when someone with my hair color tries to "dye" her hair blonde, it may go a few shades lighter, but then it will look like an olive green after a few hours.
so yes, your best bet is to have a professional do your hair...
good luck

Don`t use any of the hair dyes you do at home.. it would be better and longer lasting to have it done at a salon. You can always trust a professional! Good luck!

on the box one of the sides should have a before and after pictures of the hair colours its used on if your hair colour didn't match it that could be why. another reason maybe you need a formula thats a bit stronger, i suggest going to a salon, or even just talking to a hair dresser on what you should do

your hair is too dark for this color you need to mix the golden blonde with a brighter blonde.
