I have been doing simply too many chin ups and crunches. How many days should I rest before i go back to my routine? And believe me, I will make changes to prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

Don't overdo. Wait until the pain goes away (probably no more than few days at most unless you've seriously over strained them) then give them a day of rest each time you work them...the muscles need time to heal after a workout, so back to back days targeting the same areas can do more harm than good.

I would agree with the above post for a rest in between. Every other day for those would give your muscles recovery time just fine. When you get this sore, ibuprofen is great too.

that comes w/the territory
you will be sore for about 3 days
but if you are trying ti LOSE your gut
TRY NOT DOING THEM AT ALL and focus on your diet ..
I am going to tell you why .........
when you keep bombing your abs the actually GROW the ab muscle in size..
what I would do is focus on the fat lose lose what ever weigt you need to lose, then BOMB them when you are leaner..
if you DONT train them the develop atrophy WHICH IN THIS CASE that is a GOOD thing
trsut me I have competed in Bodybuilding and Powerlifting

this is the thing. If you wait for the pain to go away, you'll probably wait for a week. (that is all pain). what you should do is, wait until the pain is not killing you, and then start with a light rutin. take it easy and the pain will go away faster because your muscles will have gained more strenght.

never do abs every day. take every other day off..when you do resistance training you are tearing your muscle tissue which is then replaced with thicker muscle tissue as it heals. if you don't rest in between you are basically tearing it over and over again without giving it time to heal. so in sum, just don't do abs every day.
