It's not wrong. But just plan to announce your marriage verbally doesn't show your respect of your own marriage. If budget is the main concern, I would rather host a little party and invited your close family members and friends and announce at the party. Who wants to miss a wedding? Especially those care about you two. You can simply sent out an Evite from www.evite.com to them, it's free.

Instead of telling everyone on the phone, just send a card to everyone to spread the news. It's easier this way and it saves your breath. It can be a custom made card written in caligraphy or whatever style you choose. If you took photos during your wedding, include the best looking photo and make a lot of copies to put in your card. You can word the card something like:
"John and Julie has officially tied the knot at the Little Chapel in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 2:00pm"
OR you can send an email to everyone and save on postage. Be sure to list everyone's email address in the CC area, so everyone knows and they don't have to reiterate the news to everyone. You can say something short in the email like:
Hi everyone!
Big news! We wanted to be spontaneous so we tied the knot in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 24, 2006 @ 2:00pm. Yes it's official!
We are still on cloud nine. Attached are some pictures from our wedding.
Love,
John and Julie

Send out formal wedding announcements, just letting people know you got married, this many also encourage people to send you fits. You can tell them on the phone, but i suggust doing both, if possible. If you want, plan to have a recepetion here to celebrate your vegas wedding. There are great ways to work wedding announcements, just google it. I hope this helps.

Getting married in Vegas isn't exactly convention and it would make some people nervous to hear. Do what you both feel comfortable with. Maybe getting a few friends together for lunch or dinner would be better. That way you can tell them in person.

If you are interested in a really fun thing to do try this. Have a we just got married party. You send out invites just like a wedding but for a party only. It can be a lot of fun but very little work.

Verbally tell everyone, then plan a get together of some sort for a celebration. This way people won't feel left out.

Send them a card with your guys pics on it. It does not have to be the wedding day pic, just a couple pic get some announcement cards (they are not expensive). That is a better way of telling instead of calling classy and not improper.

Your close friends and family might feel a little jipped if they don't even get a hand-written note, or something. People love to keep momentos.
But it is up to you and your new husband, after all. Apparently, the two of you already dance to the beat of your own drum.

I dont think announcing it verbally is tacky.. what is tacky though is flaunting your ring right in someones face, trying to make yourself seem more special than the other person.. thats so junior high!!

How about an announcement in your local paper, they have a section for that. Heck yeah you got to tell . Maybe you could spring for a small party and announce it there.
Best wishes.
