Get a lawyer or public defender - regardless what it costs. It depends on the crime - but generally - if he is in jail now - he either committed another crime - or they put him in there for jumping AR probabation - a violation of his terms. The fact you stated "he ran" means he had to report to a PO - and didn't - and knew he was committing another crime - as did you. A good lawyer could possibly have the extradition waived, in lieu o fjail time or probation in NM - though that is not a guarantee.
And when you get a lawyer - make sure you tell him everything - unlike here.

Contesting it is only postponing the inevitible. Suck it up and get it over with. Time he spends in an NM jail putting off his responsibilities in AR is time away from his family.

He is going to AR sooner or later. It is extremely rare to have a state deny another states extradition request. And while you are appealing, he gets to sit in jail. Time for him to grow up and take responsibility for his actions. You better hope they don't go after you.

you can contest it, but it is merely a waste of money, all states have agreements to extradite to any other state.
