So, you are saying that you are a aircraft engine mechanic right now?

What kind of engines are you working with?

I assume you are working at an overhaul station or a companie's in house engine shop?

Generally speaking, a position as an "aircraft engine mechanic" is fairly limited.
Most people who work on aircraft work on the entire bird, not only working on the engines but working with structures, electrical, avionics, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc, etc.

Get an A&P and work the whole aircraft, you will have way more fun than working on the same thing day after day.

I have an A&P lic. and don't use it.. The work is fairly stable if you live near an airport. Working on small private doesn't pay that well - it's more a labor of love. To make good money you have to work for a major air carrier and work your way up the ladder to dispatcher or IA. Also, you'll have to live near a repair hub, [Delta has theirs in Atlanta etc.] On the upside I did land a few jobs in aerospace and the license helped...

I have an A&P and don't use it. I do work for a turbine engine manufacturer, though, and it looks good on a resume. Do you really want to work on engines your whole life? I suppose you could consider a job with someone like Pratt & Whitney, GE, Dallas Airmotive, or someone else who does on-wing maintenance. The big, good companies are VERY competitive, though.
