yes, being a Christian is about following Christ, not a religion.
i think people need to feel strong about Jesus, not their religion. it erks me a bit.
...and where in the Bible does it say if you cuss, say 5 Hail Mary's?

Isn't denying yourself and striving to be Christ like part of going through the motions?

I agree with the basic concept of your statement, however.
When I strive to do the will of God I am only denying that evil nature that it seems all men and women posses.
I am however being true to the nature that God gave all creatures if they would only stop fighting it and submit to HIS will.
I will admit that sometimes it is a struggle to deny the one nature and submit to God's but as we grow and mature as Christians it becomes easier and easier. I personally think this is because we are being true to the real spirit that was God given.

I think you're going off the connotations of "religious" and not the actual definition. The actual definition of "religious" would be one who is adhering to the tenets of their religion, being faithful, etc. Being a Christian would, one would hope, also include being religious and faithful, and not just a Christian in name only. Have a happy day!

Being a Christian is a personal rlationship with Jesus Christ. And yes we are striving to be like him, to follow in his foot steps and love like he loved. We are here on earth so we can show other the love that you can have, to give.

It has been well said that "religion" is man’s way of trying to deal with his guilt. Different religions have different ways of attempting to rid their adherents of sin and its consequences. They fast, pray, deny themselves legitimate pleasures, or chasten themselves, often to a point of inflicting pain. They do this because they have a concept of what they think God (or "the gods") is like, so they seek to establish their own righteousness, being "ignorant of God’s righteousness." The Good News of the Christian faith is that no one need suffer the pains of religious works. Christ’s blood can cleanse our conscience from the "dead works" of religion (Hebrews 9:14). Jesus took our punishment upon Himself, and He is the only One who can save us from sin and death. See Acts 4:12 and John 14:6.

Maybe, but knowing some of the people I've known, I would say that being a Christian is done out of love and being religious is done out of fear.

I would agree to a certain extent. I feel that for a great many people your statement is true, however as a Catholic, I enjoy going to mass and as many uneducated Catholic bashers would say, go through the motions. While for some Catholics (I use my own religion as example but this applies to all) to go to the church and go through the whole "sit, stand, kneel" process is all there is to their religion, but to myself there is deeper meaning and history behind the mass.
To get back to your original question, it depends on the person. It's not as black and white as you have posed.
