Mormons are not bad, they just have a different belief system than other Christians.

I am the only non Mormon in my whole family and although I don't share their beliefs, I defend them to people who misquote or misjudge them.

I lived in Salt Lake City for 3 years and, as a whole, they are very good people. As with any religion, you have some who are more fundamentalist than others. I don't agree with excommunicating anyone from a family because they chose to seek a different path. I don't believe in one religion telling another they are wrong. Mormons are Christians who happen to believe in certain "modern day" saints and prophets. They added in the Book of Mormon just like other Christians add in the New Testament to the Old. Their lifestyle is very much geared around the church which does have some strict hierarchy and expectations.

Also, what I don't like is for a religion to have so much influence on a governmental entity, which they do in the state of Utah.

It might be worth your while to find out.

Do you realize that a question like this is similar to asking if all Blacks are ____ or all Indians are____? (BTW, I know these are not PC referrences, and that's my point. Read on)

To begin your quest, "Mormons" are members of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Long name, but we're stuck with it. Mormons don't really mind the nickname, because it is in reference to a really cool guy, who spent his life compiling the records that bear his name: The Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is usually available in most public libraries and is a little easier reading than the King James Version of the Holy Bible. (The King James Version of the Holy Bible is the only current full translation of the Holy Bible that Mormons use.) You can get one free from any LDS missionary, or LDS Mission Home (look in the yellow pages), from www.lds.org., or any member of the LDS church can get one for you.

If you have questions about the beliefs of The LDS church this is a good place to start. See also The Articles of Faith, By Joseph Smith, Jr. It is very short and even easier reading than The Book of Mormon. You can find it in all the same sources as The Book of Mormon.

There is an awful lot more to being a Mormon than this. There are lots of Mormons in lots of places. Being Mormon definitely does not make you perfect or better than anyone else.
Like a lot of religions, lots of people are born into it and raised with a "Mormon perspective", and like all religions, some people who claim to be Mormons are good people and some are not.
The vast majority of people I have met in the world have been good people, doing the best they can with what they have. Mormons, in general, are no different. Just people.

There are very real differences between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and most other Christian religions. Feel free to investigate that part of things, too, after you get the basic concepts.

*** Please try to avoid the "mormon bashing" literature, websites, etc. Like all hate filled ravings, they are designed to stop you from studying things out for yourself using legitimate resources.

I wish you all the best in your research.

Who says they're bad? Have you ever lived in a Mormon community or had Mormon friends?

They have a great dedication to family - and no, they are not all polygamists. They practice what they believe will keep them pure, thus the not smoking, drinking, etc. They have great religious education and put tons of money into PR.

I feel sorry for them as their religion is really misguided and political. It is also socio/economically biased ...people with more money and more status will have better ranking in the church.

The average Mormon who attends their ward is not priveleged to all the rank and information of those with higher status, and are sometimes not even aware of certain oaths and rituals that will have to be practiced when reaching that level.

They also do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and part of the Trinity. They also do not consider themselves Christians even though they call themselves the Church of Jesus Christ. They also believe that Jesus has already returned to Earth and lived among the Native Americans in Utah.

That's probably why you say that "everyone says their bad".

No, not bad...just misguided.

Who is "everybody"?

I've never heard anyone say a bad word about Mormons. Nothing is ever as bad as "everybody" says it is. The overwhelming majority of Mormons are, no doubt, no different than the overwhelming majority of everyone else.

I have found that most Mormons are very nice people. They have some beliefs that I think are pretty crazy, and don't do a lot of things that I think are fun -- but I've found them to be very nice people.

Protestants, on the other hand, are usually not as nice as Mormons. They have some beliefs that I think are pretty crazy, and don't do a lot of things that I think are fun -- but I've found some of them them to be nice people -- just not as nice as the Mormons.

Catholics, on the other hand, are usually almost as nice as Mormons. They have some beliefs that I think are pretty crazy. They often do a lot of things that I think are fun -- then run to confession -- but I've found most of them them to be very nice people.

Atheists, on the other hand, are often not as nice as Mormons. They have some beliefs that I think are pretty crazy, but not nearly as many as the Protestants, Mormons or Catholics. They often do a lot of things that I think are fun. They are usually fun to talk with.

But Agnostics -- now they are nice people, not in the least bit crazy, have fun & are exceptionally interesting.

Mormons -- not so bad -- but dull.

Its not a matter of being bad, its about being deceived. If your lost and dont know something it cant always make you bad. This is the case with Mormons. They are lost like many others who are wrapped in false teachings. Pray.

I am Mormon and if you think having high moral and family values, loving the Lord and our Father in Heaven and striving to become like them is being bad... Well I guess I am then.
