The bible, was put together from a group of writings that a bunch of men did a long time ago, Someone got smart and decided to put it together into 1 book, the only bad thing is they LEFT OUT alot of things as well. They should have left it alone and let us decide what we felt we needed to know.

The Bible is essentially a library of sixty-six books or letters, written by forty or so men, who lived in several countries, over a 1500-year period. You'll notice that there are two major parts: the Old Testament, and the New Testament. The Protestant English Bible has thirty-nine books in the Old Testament, and twenty-seven books in the New Testament. It shows the history between God and His people.
Once you have read the Bible, or have memorized key Scriptures, you will find that using a concordance or (if you use an on-line or program Bible) you can do a search of key words and phrases.
There are many who have read and reread their Bible so may times that they can tell you which book, or even the chapter, where a verse is located. It just takes time, and a willingness to study.

Sure, the Bible is big; it took me a couple years to read it myself. But on the other hand, it IS the basis of all Christian faith, so it makes sense for people to direct you to the Bible as the source of answers about Christianity. It'd perhaps be a bit more helpful if they could direct you to a specific book - or better yet - to a specific chapter, but in truth the Bible makes the most sense when taken as a whole, so in the long run it's still worth reading. And that way, you can argue with people with more authority since you know what you're talking about and can cite specific verses. It really shuts them up if you know more about it than they do.

The person who tells someone go read the bible should actually give a Scripture.maybe they know about what your question is about but don;t know where to find it,if you need to know something there is a index in the back of the bible it will tell you where to find what your are looking for.

It's big because it's actually a library containing 66 books. If you want specific answers from it, get a concordance Bible, where topics are listed in a sort of glossary, and cross-references are also listed. Go ahead, read the Bible.

The bible is so big for a reason. Those that tell you to go read the bible are certain that you won't because it is so Dang big. It the same reason that you have never read All the Tax statutes in your given area. Its just too big!!

It was written by 40 different authors over 1500 years. It is very extensive because obviously God had a lot to tell us
it is not just "fairy tales," if anyone actually read the bible they would find a lot of it is not narrative at all
Proverbs is one of my favorite books because it has many words of wisdom

Probably, but most of them only read a few lines at a time, and think they know the whole thing. The majority also likes to make you feel inferior. What is it you would like to know about Christian faith?

you got the answer already
but my opinion, it has to be big if God is HUUUGE
the Bible has not much in comparison to God.
i can see the overwhelming frustration of reading through every bit of it, but there are easier ways to understand the Bible. YOu have TBN channel, you have TheBible spoken online and in cd's and you have
"LEARN THE BIBLE IN 24 HOURS" BY CHUCK MISSLER, A CONVENIENT DVD THAT HAS ALL OF THE BIBLE PRECISELY SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND AND GET TO WHERE YOU WANT TO FIND OUT AND GET TO.
