Our allergist told us the Bichon and Maltese were the best dogs for people with allergies. Neither breed has dander - the thing that provokes allergy symptoms in many people. Our Maltese does not shed either - don't know about a Bichon.
Our Maltese was very easy to train. Only took three days for him to catch on in alerting us to take him out to potty. Very smart, lovable, good-natured(just don't mess around with their curly-Q tail - children should be warned), playful dogs. Playful into old age. Cannot be left outside though in hot weather - they will tolerate it long enough to potty and that's it - definitely an inside dog! Can sunburn.

I have a maltese-bichon mixed puppy - 20 weeks old. I was hesitant to have a dog in the house because of my allergies (usually seasonal but also when around cats and some dogs). I have had no problem at all - not even any mild symptoms of allergies. She is such a pleasure to have and great fun! Good luck in your search for a new pet.

Poodles are considered a good breed for people with allergies as they do not shed. However, you must realize that all dogs produce dander, which is a product of their saliva. When you talk about allergens in assosciation with animals, dander is what causes it, not the shedding.

West Highland White Terrier "westie"--- proven fact!! I have sinus and allergy problems, and did a lot of reading on house dogs before I got my first westie... they shed little to none, and pet dander is little to none also.. they do require trips to the groomers every 5-6 weeks (for thick coated bloodline) and can go less often if they have thin coat. i have one of each coat-type. and also if they get a little dingy looking or a little dirt on their coat, you can put corn starch on their coat and brush it in a little with your hand and it cleans them right up!! i havent had any problems with my allergies because of the dogs, just the normal allergy stuff we have to deal with.. and they are great pets too!! but you have to be a "westie-person".. they are not for everyone...

Hi: A dog that has hair instead of fur. I have a cockapoo for this reason. He doesn't shed either. Cockapoos are awesome!
