I went to Santiago with a couple of friends a few years ago in October and it was lovely. Be aware that there is/was an entry fee of $100 US for Americans. I didn't have it when I arrived, but they let me run out to the baggage area to get to an ATM. We took a day trip to the Andes and went hiking. We walked around the clubbing area on a Saturday night (awesome!). Just hanging around Santiago was fun. There was an artsy area of town that had some really funky restaurants and bars. I think it was near the convention center downtown. There's also a huge religious statue on one of the hills (like the ones in Brazil and Portugal). I'm not religious, but it was cool to go up there and take pictures. And you can see a spread of the city. Have Fun!!!

Chile is fantastic, spent 8 weeks there recently. The site below is a journal of my time there, you will see that it is a diverse country with lots to do and see, and is well worth a visit.
Santiago is great. Check out the blog.

I havent been there, but I know people from there. It's very European-like and orderly. I've seen pictures, and if I wasn't told it was Chile, I would've assumed it was somewhere in the Alps.
