simply divide the formula by 4.
12x^4 becomes 3x^4
-20x^3 becomes -5x^3
ans 4x^2 becomes x^2

Now divivide by x^2, (simply subtract 2 from each 'power')
3x^4 becomes 3x^2
-5x^3 becomes 5x
and x^2 becomes 1 (x^2/x^2=1)

that as simple as I can break it down.
You can follow the same pattern for all problems like thia the trick is just finding a number that goes in to every term.

Divide all the terms by 4x^2

12x^4 divided by 4x^2 = 3x^2
20x^3 divided by 4x^2 = 5x
4x^2 divided by 4x^2 = 1

Since the equation is supposed to equal 0, when you divide 0 by 4x^2 you still get 0.
