I have really hard hair. Whenever I pull it up in a ponytail and let it back down I'm left with a big bump where the scruncie was. The only thing I can do then is to straighten it out, but that just dries out my hair. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the bump? Or maybe soften hair?

Hello, Joana!

Here are a few suggestions to help manage "hard" hair:

First, try using a different shampoo. Sometimes the shampoo you use (even though it's a moisturizing one) can leave deposits which can make already coarse hair even more hard to manage. One I use is Dove's shampoo for Dry/Damaged hair. If you're already shampooing once a day, try skipping a day or two between washes to give your scalp time to secrete sebum - oils which lubricate the scalp and hair.

Second, studies show that shampoos and conditioners are formulated to work together, so make sure to use the same conditioner on your hair, as your shampoo. Dove's conditioner for Dry/Damaged hair is the perfect match.

Third, be sure to use a deep conditioner - most people will tell you to use it once a week, but once every two weeks is fine. I actually SWEAR by mixing Garnier Fructis's 3 minute Deep Conditioner and Hi Pro Pac's Deep Conditioner for Dry/Damaged hair. Make sure to comb through, put on a shower cap, and take a nice, long, HOT bath! Read a good book... the steam will penetrate the shower cap and you'll feel the difference almost immediately.

Hair that's already dry and damaged should go through as little stress as possible. Getting your ends trimmed at the salon every six weeks is great. If you can't afford a pricey salon, try looking up a beauty school in your area. The prices are WAY cheaper, and the students are pretty apt at their craft. Try air drying instead of blow drying, and use your curling iron as little as possible. Heat stress is another damaging factor.

Don't forget to move your ponytail height up and down every day (one day a high pony tail, one day a low one at the nape of the neck.) This technique prevents breakage and should help eliminate that permanent "bump" mark of your scrunchie!

I hope this has helped you!

I might suggest The brand TIGI Catwalk Oatmeal & Honey Treatment Shampoo - Helps repair chemically treated or damaged hair with vitamins A, B, and E while enhancing moisture and shine. The soothing aroma invigorates your mind, body, and soul. Follow with Oatmeal and
Honey Conditioner. I love it and my hair gets a lot of damaging from the blow dring and flat ironing I do to it. Its smells like oatmeal cookies and works wonders. Also you might want to try a leave in conditionar I use potion 9 by sabastian it will help restore your hair as much as it can. Also there is a extra condidtionar you can get that you leave it on for a few minutes while in the shower after shampoo and conditioning that also works great. And probably if you buy it from a salon or if you have a trade secret in your area it will be more affordable then buying it at a grocery store. Hope it helps

The Body Shop at Home has Honey Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner - fabulous! Also try to avoid using an elastic ponytail holder - they only break yuor hair shafts. Better to loosely twist and pin back with a plastic tortoise clip whenever you can.

Olive Oil treament warm up the oil then rinse your hair in warm to hot water. put oil on head and put a plastic cover on leave it as long as possible over night if hair is secure enough. then throughly wash and rinse out. Make sure that you work the oil into the hair by using the same action as you would do making flakey pastry. With the finger tips action.

try to put mayo all over your hair and cover with a shower cap for about 30 mins. also you could try infusem 3. It is a deep conditioner you can get from walmart. Stop using heat on your hair.(blowdryer, iron, straitner, etc.)
