No it's not safe, Myspace does not check the infor you input, this guy could be like 30, he could be a she, he could be completely different from how you think he is. Be careful play safe, and if you have to meet this guy, be there with a safety buddy and have an escape plan. Too many girls have been raped by guys they met on Myspace.

There are many ways to make online dating safer.
(Though if he's in Japan and you aren't, it's gonna be a long swim, and that ain't safe!)

Ask him for references. Other girls that he has met online and in person, preferably someone you have known (online or off) for some time. Then CHECK them. If they tell you he's a liar or a scary guy, you'd better meet someone else. If they don't, you can't be sure they aren't really part of some scheme, but you've got to trust your gut sometimes.

ALWAYS meet in a public place. Always, always, always! I don't care if you think you're in love and just can't wait to be alone with him, he's less likely to slit your throat at a restaurant than in a hotel room! Or you his. (Safety goes both ways.) Besides, he might be awful! Then you call a cab and go home.

Ask him if he understands "safe calls." Do you?
A safe call is when you get VERIFIED information about him, like name, address, phone number, employer and so on. BEFORE you leave the public place, you leave the information with someone you trust. Your trusted person calls the police with the info if you haven't checked in by several certain times. The person you are meeting should know you plan to do this, but not when or how many safe calls you must make.

If he won't agree to that, you don't leave the public place with him, period. If the information can't be verified, you don't leave with him. Call a friend to escort you out. Don't worry about being embarrassed. Call the police if you're frightened, and ask them to escort you to a cab. It's a lot less work that hauling your body to the morgue!

Have your mom come with when you meet him!

Don't give him YOUR verifiable information, or anything that can identify you until you're certain (after you've met a few times.) It's not fair, but you have to protect yourself. His job is to protect himself. If he won't meet you without it, don't meet him. If a guy doesn't understand that women are usually more physically vulnerable than he, he isn't the kind of guy you can trust, anyway.

Nothing makes meeting a stranger that doesn't know anyone you know safe. Nothing. But these things can certainly help. (Marrying your childhood sweetheart with everybody's blessing isn't always safe, either.)

wow have u seen dateline NBC with the child predetor thing, it was like the entire perverts in this world were on myspace, so ya ur mom is right. most people are not who they say they are on myspace which makes kids a prey. so if u value ur life step away from myspace.

No, because dating someone on myspace is not safe and okay because his profile might seem okay but the thing about dating someone you met on myspace is that u really don't know who they are and you should listen to your mom because she wants to protect you and you should appreciate her because she cares about your safety
