A Qtip is the worst thing in the world you can use on a VCR head!!! You need to go to Radio Shack or any TV/VCR service shop and get a couple of the plastic head cleaner sticks with the chamois on them. Q tips are cotton and "catch" in the "fingers" of the heads. That big round disc that the tape runs on is not the HEADS. The two or more Insulated things sticking out about an 16th of an inch are the heads. They are a slotted insulator with a coil of wire (very fine wire) wound around their ends. That is what you are going to clean. You can use ordinary rubbing alcohol on the chamois and it is best to put it in play mode to clean them, but that takes a special jig (looks kinda like 1/2 of a tape and has no tape in it, it just fools the system to think it has a tape in it.) You can lightly use a back and forth movement across the heads if you can't do it with it running, but be careful, they are easy to break.

Materials needed:
1. Screwdriver
2. Q-tips
3. Rubbing Alcohol

1.Open up the vcr
2. locate the large metal head (there are grooves on it) - it's circular, and may be more than 2 inside the vcr
3. apply alcohol on the qtip
4. clean those heads with the qtip
