LOL Well, my understanding of that scripture is where Jesus is telling his disciples not to worry about trying to convert someone who doesn't want to be converted. Kind of like him saying for them to shake the dust off their feet and move on.
I don't believe it has anything to do with real dogs. If I had a dog, I would surely care a lot for it, though. Maybe too much, and perhaps this is what you are trying to keep people from doing. I do understand that a human's life is more sacred. However, since I don't have any other humans around here, I think it would be okay if I took special care of my dog.

The word SACRED means : 1.dedicated to, or for the worship of a god 2. worthy of religion 3. holy ........ People do not worship their dogs or consider them holy.
On the other hand, the meaning of Matthew 7:6 is VERY sacred. We are advised not to share our spiritual truths and testimonies to people who cannot possibly understand what we mean. Jesus taught by parables, fables, stories. When he answered questions that could intimidate him, he answered with cryptic, succinct words. He didn't try to explain GOD (good) to non-believers (evil) because it would have been a waste of time AND dangerous.

Proverbs 12:10
The man in right standing with God, cares well for his animals, but the kindest act of the wicked is cruel.
God gave us this love for our animals/pets. As long as we don't place our love for God second to the of love of ANYTHING, then we are not cheating God.
God is love. I John 4:8

Yes, it is. I wish my dog to be buried with me when she dies.....that is how much I love my dog. In reality, she will be buried in my backyard, but my love is strong.
