Well basically milk doesn't help the mucus that's already in your nasal passages/throat. You know how sometimes when you drink milk you can kind of feel like it lines your throat, kind of makes it gunky or something? That's why it can hinder your ability to sing.

It isn't bad for some people, but for most people it makes you all gooey. You shouldn't drink anything before singing, your cords are naturally lubricated and that is the best for singing, and drinking anything immediately before singing can wash that away. However, you need to stay hydrated the best you can so your body can produce those lubricants! I drink Gatorade, water, and the "Throat Comfort" Yogi Tea.

It is bad after and before you sing, and the reason is because bacterias of the milk, yogurt, cheese, etc, stay in your throat and vocal cords giving and causing you flame which is uncomfortable when you are singing, haven't you felt it?

As you can see from the people who have answered so far, it's not actually bad, but it can cause problems with your vocal production. I think it's better to drink *something*, because singing when you are not completely hydrated is far more dangerous.

It coats the vocal cords with a mucousy lining that garbles your voice. Better to drink water beforehand.

it makes phlegm which messes up you voice. also, if the phlegm sits around in there, it can make you sick, usually with a cold or sore throat, which can totally screw you up. so if you are a singer, i would cut out the milk products.

Pleghm! Which ultimately makes it harder for you to sing freely. Same with ice cream.

But Green Apples are supposed to be good for you.

It produces phlem (which is also why you shouldn't have like ice cream and stuff while you're sick) and stuff and makes your vocal chords all clogged. So you'll keep having to clear your throat and it'll just sound messed up.
