Our doctor said without. When they are learning to walk, their feet are still forming. Bare feet is better for arch formation and shoes can lead to flat feet or arches that did not form properly. I put shoes on my winter baby and we are still dealing with arch problems and he is 5. The others were summer babies that we left bare foot and have no problems. I don't know if shoes are absolutely what caused the problems, but that is what the doctor says.

Usually it's without first,,, just so they get the hang of it...then try shoes, but easy to walk in.... like cute little mary janes if the baby is a girl. No big huge sneakers for now. But usually they will just get up and do it at home on thier own...

Our Pediatrician always said without. It helps with their balance because they can feel the floor. It's just easier to walk without them. I don't think my kids would even tolerate shoes until they were about 18 months and even now they don't really like them.

I'd say without shoes, let him/her first learn in the house in a safe clean place.

Without is the best idea. Let them get a feel for waking naturally. Once they get the hang of it, let them wear shoes. Then get ready to catch em or wipe some tears.

my mother-in-law, a perdiatric nurse for 25 years, and my personal consultant insists that without shoes is the best way for a little one to start walking. their cute little toes act as grippers, plus its so much easier to learn with what they have. shoes can come later, of course.

yes its best to have your child to learn to walk without shoes because it helps form the childs arch and they dont fall as much or you might want to try Robeez they are leather soled shoes from newborn to 24 mths

i am sure the jury is still out on this one. I didn't make mine wear shoes at first (inside of course). And they walk, run just fine now.

I personally think that it doesn't matter which way you teach them. It's all about balance anyway. I wouldn't use shoes simply because they cost money and your kid will grow out of them in a month anyway.
