It can be done from the time he is 8 weeks, but most vets prefer to wait until 6 months, as they handle the anesthesia and fight infection best when a bit older.

A dog can be neutered at 8 weeks and should be neutered before 6 months of age.

most ppl recommend 6 months..but in recent years vets have been doing it when pups are around 9 to 12 weeks old.
i personally don't believe in this practice, due to the fact that male pups need the testosterone to grow properly..its all a matter of what YOU think is best for your pup, and the advice and council you get from your vet.

Some do it at 5 months but I think 6 months is best. The one dog I have that had it done earlier than this seems to have never grown up out of puppyhood. He got bigger but still treats my wife like he's her mother and is pretty clingy.
This is related to being clingy but I think is related to when he got fixed. He won't lift his leg to pee.
Other dog I had fixed when we saw him trying to hump another dog and he acts like a normal adult dog does. And lifts his leg to pee.

My vet told me 6+ months. But don't let it foul you. If you are doing this to calm your animal down it does not work. Good luck!

As soon as his testicles drop. They should be able to be felt by 8-10 wks. VERY easy & quick surgery.
Testosterone is NOT a growth hormone, btw.
