I'm new to hair coloring. The ones I used are those that you can get from pharmacies. Is it because there's something in the haircolor that's irritating my scalp? What alternatives do I have?

you may be applying the color directly TO your scalp, which you shouldn't be, just at the hair root and below. It may be a good idea to deep condition your hair/scalp a day or so before dying to see if that helps. ALso, the day of coloring, try not to manipulate your scalp too much (ie, brushing, washing and scrubbing, tight ponytails etc.)

When applying hair color, you should also be applying it at the roots LAST if coloring your entire head. If doing roots or new growth, start at the where the existing color stops and natural color begins and work your way up.

If that doesnt work, you may have an allergy. It is always a good idea to do the spot test that the manufacturer instructs on the packaging.

If you're using a hair product to lighten the hair, then this is common, when it has been left on too long. If it's any color or bleach or general that does this too you, you may have an allergy to the ingredients. There is a way to apply the color off the scalp, using hair foils, and a color brush applilcator, it's best for a proffesional to do it, . You may want to stress "off the scalp application" . The best results with off the scalp methods are usually obtained by choosing a color you want , and some high lights, to avoid that " I just colored my hair look " . There are good proiducts from the shelf that are similar to what a salon would use.

You can color but you need to follow up with a really good conditioner and leave in conditioner. There are lots of shampoos and conditioners specifically for color treated hair. They have more moisture so that the hair and scalp don't get overly dry. You can also use cholesterol deep hair conditioning and give yourself hot oil treatments once a week or once every two weeks. Good luck!

YOU MAY HAVE AN ALLERGY TO SOMETHING IN THE HAIR COLOR. IF YOU USE FOIL HIGHLIGHTING OR LOW LIGHTING THE COLOR NEVER TOUCHES THE SCALP. IT IS ALWAYS RECOMMENDED TO DO A PATCH TEST ON THE SCALP OR NECKLINE TO SEE IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY TO THE PRODUCT. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE AN ALLERGY TO THE PRODUCTS BUT NOT KNOWING WHAT YOU USED WOULD BE HARD TO SAY. NEVER USE BLEACH MORE THAN 20 PERCENT VOLUME ON THE SCALP THE STRONG THE VOLUME OF PEROXIDE USED IN YOUR COLOR FOR LIFTING TO A BLOND THE MORE THE ODDS ARE FOR IRRITATION, BURNING AND ITCHING OF THE SCALP. MY ADVICE IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD A PROFESSIONAL TALK TO YOUR LOCAL BEAUTY SCHOOL ABOUT BEING A COLOR MODEL OR ABOUT THEIR SERVICES THEY ARE MODESTLY PRICED. BUT I DO NOT ADVISE YOU DO IT WITHOUT CHECKING FURTHER. I AM A PROFESSIONAL STYLIST AND CAN SAY THAT FROM EXPERIENCE. DO NOT CHANCE A POSSIBLE REACTION THAT MIGHT BE WORSE. GOOD LUCK.

yes. most permanent hair colors can irritate and dry out your scalp next time you dye make sure you wash it out really well as this could be the cause and that you constantly keep it conditioned... there are many shampoo's that you can get specifically for dyed hair that will help keep your hair and scalp from drying out and help to maintain your new color

You are drying your scalp out with the chemicals from the dye. Wait a couple of weeks and get you a hot oil treatment from the store. It's a self do it.

On the box of the product that you used, will be a customer help phone or address(email). Contact them with the problem and they may help you decide if you need to change the method to eliminate a reaction. Also, you may need to go to a professional to have color done. If you do, let them know of your previous problems.

if you are new to hair coloring go see a pro! i had to learn this the hard way, and ended up with bright orange hair when i was going for honey blond. it was the day before i left for vacation and had to spend 2 weeks with my hair like this. plus, if it burns, chanses are you are allergic. find yourself a good hair stylist, don't be afraid to interview them first, this is YOUR hair, not thiers, you have to live with it! another thing i learned the hard way (and am still waiting for it to grow enough to be fixed!)
