Go to http://messenger.yahoo.com and scroll to the bottom. There is a link for a WEB yahoo messenger.

Use the web version of yahoo instead. There are no downloads, you can just use the messenger straight from the browser.

it may be blocking activeX controls on the browser, go to options
/security and lower the security level
